Beit Shalom has a cheder which meets every Sunday morning. We cater to children from 6 through to 13 years of age, and include B’nai Mitzvah training. The children are currently split into three groups, all of which study Hebrew and Jewish Studies. The younger children are learning to read and write Hebrew. The older ones are using the prayers in the siddur, “The Gates of Prayer”, in order to learn the meaning, grammar and linguistics of the Hebrew prayers. They are further challenged in their Jewish Studies by being presented with a weekly ethical dilemma which they debate. The younger children usually do a weekly activity which teaches them about the next festival, Shabbat or the week’s parashah. All the children attend a weekly prayer service and are learning to lead the prayers.
